Tell me, if you can remember
How many times did we walk together
Over the velvet red leaves
That littered all those autumn paths
Do you remember the canopy of sunlight
That haloed the treetops of those gardens
The way the lights skated across your eyes
Flecks of green, the only spring like feature
In your face of autumn beauty
Freckles that fall like browning leaves
The raindrops of your auburn hair
Streaking down a starlit grin
And you, a waxing moon
I went back to that pathway
Took a wander with just my hands
Now those leaves are made of mulch
And walking through them felt like trench foot
The sun had this unique way of being annoying
Constantly glaring down at me
And then fucking off when I needed it
I wonder if you were the only beauty
If the colours rose from the ground
To bask in the presence of their faeri
If you made the rain feel somewhat familiar
Like bathwater from my childhood
If those trees knew how much they’d miss you
That they made rubies with their leaves
